Serving Together

There are some paragraphs in Scripture that clearly connect above others, a bit like this one: ‘Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.’ (Romans 12:10-12)

Paul pops it in towards the end of his letter to the Romans when he’s aiming to put practical outcomes on the back of his theological exposition. And it works well. I mean we can theorise about doctrine forever but who can deny the importance of—devotion, honour, zeal, serving, joy, patience, and faithfulness!  When it comes down to it we can talk the gospel forever—the real question is are we living it? Speaking of which brings me to the little statement amongst these words—’Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour serving the Lord’. Amazing! Paul says I don’t keep the flame of my heart burning through listening but rather through serving. As Jesus himself said, ‘I have not come to be served but to serve…’

We are here to serve—and in doing it we keep our zeal. So, if you are feeling like the flame of Christ has dimmed; if you are overcome by fear and doubt; if you are feeling drawn through tests or temptation away from Christ—serve! Keep doing the simple things—the routines that build discipline and lead to strength. Or as, Pablo Picasso said, ‘Inspiration exists but it has to find you working!’ So lets keep serving.

Creche—We are changing the location for Creche to the upstairs open space during the services. Toys are available for the children to play with. Access is via either the stairs or lift and you can access the toilet and baby changing facilities by the walk through  at the bottom of the stairs which avoids the need to walk through the main hall.
